From Rock Bottom to Redemption: Dorian’s Story of Freedom and Faith
Some stories don't just inspire they awaken hope.
Dorian’s journey is one of those stories. From the depths of struggling and spiritual darkness to a life of purpose, healing, and faith, his testimony is a reminder that no one is too far gone for transformation.
"I hit rock bottom... and cried out to God."
“My name is Dorian, and I’m a graduate of the Rise Discipleship Men's Home. But before God turned my life around, I was completely lost.”
For years, Dorian battled inner torment wrestling with his identity and plagued by pride, lust, depression, anxiety, and doubt. His life spiraled into chaos, and it wasn’t until one dark moment, while smoking weed and feeling completely broken, that he finally reached out in desperation:“God, I need You. Please help me.”
That prayer would become the first step in a remarkable journey.
A Crumbled Flyer and a Second Chance
Change didn’t come overnight. Dorian’s family life was strained and manipulative, and he could barely recognize himself anymore. But then something unexpected happened: A crumpled flyer from Rise Discipleship found its way into his hands shared by his sister, of all people.
He brushed it off at first. But then two men from the program showed up at just the right time. “It wasn’t random. It was God,” Dorian says. “They found me at my lowest point and told me about a place that could help for free.”
He didn’t know what would come next, but he said yes.
The Hardest Work Was the Heart Work
Dorian admits that saying “yes” to change was one of the hardest decisions of his life.“I had to learn to submit. To trust. To let God reshape me.”
Mentors like Brother Billy and Pastor Corey stood beside him, challenging and encouraging him every step of the way. “They drew out the gold in me. They saw something I couldn’t see yet.”
He compares the process to an olive being pressed painful, yes, but necessary for something rich to be released. In the hands of the Master Potter, Dorian was being molded into something new.
Freedom Found in Jesus
Today, Dorian is no longer bound by struggling or despair. After eight years of drug and alcohol abuse, he is completely free and full of purpose.
“There’s no other way but Jesus,” he says boldly. “I get to wake up every day in surrender. I get to serve. I get to live free.”
