From Hustle to Healing: Otis’s Redemption Story
Some stories don’t start in tragedy but in drifting. That’s how Otis describes the early chapters of his life. He didn’t set out to wreck his life he just kept taking small steps away from the path God had for him. What followed was a slow slide into struggling, double-mindedness, and a life ruled by pain and performance.
But that’s not where the story ends. Through God’s grace and the community at Rise Discipleship Home, Otis discovered hope, healing, and a new way to live.

Drifting in the Wrong Direction
Otis grew up in a good home, but like so many, he was pulled toward the noise and chaos of the streets. He says it best: “I wasn’t a bad kid I just made bad choices.” Drinking, drugs, and hustling became his identity. But underneath all of it was a deep ache to be seen, loved, and accepted.
He tried to clean up. He even went through a few programs. But instead of healing, he found more hurt places that didn’t offer real change, just a temporary pause from destruction.
A Cry for Help
In a moment of desperation, Otis called out to God. That cry was met with a lifeline: Rise Discipleship Home. He showed up thinking it might be another short-term fix. What he found was something entirely different.
He found men who really cared. Leaders who weren’t just quoting Scripture, but living it. A place filled with honesty, structure, and real love the kind that holds you accountable and lifts you up at the same time.
Learning to Live Again
Change didn’t happen overnight. Otis had to unlearn years of running and numbing. For the first time, he started facing his pain head-on, no longer hiding behind a mask.
At Rise, he learned to pray. He learned to sit still with God’s Word and let it shape him. He started waking up with purpose, showing up with consistency, and walking in integrity. Slowly, God peeled back the layers and began showing Otis who he truly was.
New Dreams, New Life
Today, Otis is no longer defined by struggling or shame. He’s a man on a mission anchored in

Jesus, walking in freedom, and dreaming of opening a business to give back to the very community he once ran from.
His favorite verse? “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Not just a saying but the truth that now fuels his life.
