He Had Nowhere Left to Go. So Dillion Cried Out to God, and Ended Up at Rise.
Before Dillion came to the Rise Discipleship home, he didn't really have anywhere to go. He had been living with a friend for about a year, and then it was time to leave. He was on drugs. He moved into his mother and her boyfriend's place for a while, in conditions no one should have to live in.
"No water, no electricity, no power, nothing like that. My life was pretty much in shambles."
He was lost, with no idea what to do. His lowest moment was simply that, having nowhere to go, and knowing that if he didn't change his life, he would probably end up homeless on the streets.
He Cried Out
With nothing left to lean on, Dillion did the only thing he had left.
"I ended up crying out to God, asking Him to help me, and I ended up here."
When the chance came, he said yes without hesitation, because he genuinely wanted his life to change. He was tired of the way he was living, tired of the drugs, tired of walking back and forth in the same circles.
"I just knew that I was wanting Jesus. And I knew Jesus was going to change my heart, change the way I was."
A Different World
Dillion didn't even really know what discipleship was, and the home was a world away from where he had come from. Getting into the Word. Praying. Worshiping. Serving. Helping people he never imagined he would be able to help.
One passage in particular opened him up: Psalm 63, and its picture of seeking God early in the morning.
"Getting there with Him, being in His presence early in the morning. It's the best time to seek Him."
Becoming Himself
The change shows up in the small, human things. Dillion says he's more focused now, not so easily distracted. For the first time, he can actually be himself around people, talkative, open. He's learning to take life slow, to process how he feels and how he thinks, even to be careful about the way he speaks.
And he has a future in front of him now. He's hoping to earn his GED, go to college, and become a CNA, a certified nursing assistant, so he can care for elderly people. He sees exactly how God can use a story like his.
"If He can change me, He can change anyone."
