From Lost to Redeemed: Devonte’s Story of Hope and Transformation

My name is Devonte Sears, and I’m a proud graduate of the Rise Discipleship Home. What I’m about to share isn’t just a testimony, it’s a journey from emptiness to purpose, from struggling to freedom, and from simply existing to truly living.

Lost and Searching

I grew up in a Christian household, but my connection to God was superficial. I didn’t understand the urgency of truly following Him. Instead, I chased whatever made me feel good in the moment drugs, alcohol, unhealthy relationships, and temporary highs that always left me feeling lower than before.

Even though I had moments of conviction, I was stuck in a cycle of searching for meaning in all the wrong places. I didn’t know who I really was, and I felt completely disconnected from the God I had heard about all my life.

A Turning Point

Eventually, the weight of my choices became unbearable. I was tired of the emptiness. Tired of pretending. Tired of wondering if life had more to offer.

That hunger for truth brought me to the Rise Discipleship Home—a decision that changed everything. I didn’t know exactly what I was walking into, but I knew I couldn’t stay where I was.

Finding God—and Finding Myself

At Rise, I encountered something real: God’s presence. For the first time, I wasn’t just learning about God...I was experiencing Him personally.

I had doubts. I had struggles. But I kept showing up, and so did He.

Slowly, I let go of the distractions and lies I had clung to for years. And in their place, I found identity, clarity, and truth. I began to understand that my story wasn’t just about my pain—it was about God’s plan to redeem it.

Walking in Freedom

Graduating from the program was more than completing a phase—it marked the beginning of a new life.

Today, my relationship with God is my foundation. I don’t need to chase fulfillment anymore—I’ve found it in Him. I now live with peace, purpose, and joy, knowing that I’m walking in the identity God created for me.
