From the Bottle to Purpose: Dale’s Story of Redemption

If you’ve ever felt stuck, hopeless, or like you’ve run out of options, I get it.My name is Dale, and for 27 years I lived in struggle, brokenness, and despair. But God wasn’t finished with me and if you’re reading this, He’s not finished with you either.
Life in the Grip of Struggling
For almost three decades, alcohol and drugs were my escape. I used them to numb wounds from rejection, failure, and emptiness pain I didn’t know how to face. On the outside, I looked like I had it together. I was a truck driver with a steady job. But inside, I was crumbling. I bounced between toxic relationships, bad decisions, and short-lived rehabs that never addressed the root of my pain.I even lived homeless at times.
Then came the lowest moment. I blacked out behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler. I could have killed someone or myself. That was my wake-up call. If something didn’t change, my life was going to end, and it wasn’t going to be pretty.
The Turning Point: Rise Discipleship Home
My family introduced me to Rise Discipleship Home. At first, I didn’t want to go. I was skeptical, hardened, and tired of “programs” that didn’t work. But I agreed to give it 30 days. That decision saved my life.
At Rise, I found more than sobriety. I found accountability, love, and a faith-based structure that went deeper than treating symptoms. The people there like Pastor Rey looked past my mistakes and helped me see myself the way God does: not broken beyond repair, but chosen for redemption.
Meeting Jesus
I didn’t just stop drinking at Rise. I met Jesus. And He didn’t hand me a list of rules He gave me a relationship. For the first time, I stopped blaming everyone else and started owning my story. Through daily Bible study, prayer, and community, my heart began to heal.
I learned to truly talk to God, not just send up quick “popcorn prayers.” I discovered emotional intelligence, healthy relationships, and a desire to help others walk the same road I once did.
The Brotherhood That Carried Me
One of the most powerful parts of Rise is the brotherhood. I was never alone. When I fell short, my brothers picked me up. When I doubted, they believed for me. They became my family.

A New Mission
Today, I’m stepping into a bigger purpose.God has called me to help plant a new Rise campus in Austin, TX. I’m joining Pastor Rey and other graduates to bring hope to men who feel hopeless just like I once did.
This is what redemption looks like. God doesn’t just rescue you, he takes your pain and turns it into purpose.
